Moffat Nyirenda is a physcian with an interest in Diabetes and Endocrinology. He was among the first graduates from the College of Medicine in Malawi (with “hybrid” training between University College London and University of Malawi), and subsequently trained and worked at the University of Edinburgh. In 2010 he returned to Malawi to take up a position of Professor of Research at the College of Medicine, and Associate Director Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme. He is now Director of the Karonga Prevention Study, and has a Professorial position at LSHTM. He has particular interest in research capacity building in Africa, and is a Director of the Southern Africa Consortium for Research Excellence (SACORE), funded through the Wellcome Trust African Institutions Initiative to develop a vibrant, sustainable research culture in southern Africa (Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe).
