Carolyn is a Professor in the Division of Medical Virology, University of Cape Town and leads the HIV Diversity and Pathogenesis Group which is involved in elucidating properties of recently transmitted virus, and understanding HIV evolution in response to cellular and antibody immune pressure. Carolyn is also an executive member of the Centre for AIDS Programme for Research in South Africa (CAPRISA); participates in numerous multi-centre national and international studies including Centre for HIV AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI), Collaboration for AIDS Vaccine Discovery (CAVD) and HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN). She plays an active role in the African AIDS Vaccine Programme (AAVP).
