On Tuesday, 29 June 2010 Africa Centre for Health & Population Studies presented the desperately needed Physical Science Kit to the local Siyaphambili High School.  This was in response to the sponsorship request of a science kit for Grade 12 science learners submitted by the Headmistress, Ms S.P Sithole.  Worth of note is that this is the first Grade 12 class since the school’s establishment in 2006. Handing over the kit to the school, the Head of External Relations, Mr Mbongiseni Buthelezi said “despite the Centre’s core business, namely bio-medical research, we shall continue to intervene in terms of the community’s immediate educational, health and social needs as an endeavour to improve their quality of life”.  The Headmistress expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the Africa Centre and said that “at least the learners would not be seeing the chemicals and equipments for the first time when they get to tertiary level”. Representing the learners were Nokwazi Mkhwanazi and Sipho Mhlongo, who said they were very happy and thankful to Africa Centre for giving them this kit.  They further promised to work hard so that they can do well in their examinations. “Our science learners used theorize everything when it came to chemical compounds and reaction which they should be experimenting on their own since science should always be more practical than theoretical or abstract. Learners will now be able to see all this instead of imagining”, said the elated Physical Science teacher, Mr Khumalo.
